Investigation of the dynamic inflow effects due to collective and individual pitch steps on a wind tunnel setup

Abstract Dynamic inflow effects occur due to the rapid change of rotor loading under conditions such as fast pitch steps. The paper presents a setup suitable for investigation those non-axisymmetric conditions, namely individual Furthermore, insights into relevant phenomena are gathered. An control capable model wind turbine is set up in tunnel order conduct measurement controllable conditions. During execution collective and steps, loads operational parameters recorded by onboard sensors. Meanwhile, simulations engineering aeroelastic codes run evaluate their accuracy predicting phenomena. Results show distinct behaviour during an step, which differs from free vortex wake able predict turbines’ response satisfactory while blade element momentum tools deviations measurements. findings serve basis discussion future work.
